Grieve Well

Grieve Well

A grief narrative by Becky Benson

Pack your grief into a box Tie it with a bow

Weigh it down with heavy rocks So it sinks to the depths below

Send it out in the dark of night Under a haze of clouds

Forget its ever troubling blight Don’t speak its name aloud

Don’t cry or wail or show your hand Keep your feelings tucked inside

A woman doesn’t make demands Within limits she resides

Get up, get dressed, be demure Smile sweetly with your eyes

Again and again, daily, endure Hide your grief in your disguise

Peace, be still, go onward now Show grace in all you do

A wink, a nod, a curtsied bow Another perfect performance by you

Day in and out to all your meet Another easy sell

For all they see, while incomplete Is how you grieve so well
